Description
I took a walk today down that lonely ol’ path
to put away a little piece of my past.
Seven long years and nothing has changed.
Seven long years and that tree still has our names.
I carved that ol’ tree with my pen knife
when high school was all I knew of life,
and our love forever guaranteed
was now just two names on that ol’ tree.
Funny how time moves so slow and so fast
and forever never seems to last.
To this day I don’t know what went wrong.
Seven long years, now time to move on.
I carved that ol’ tree with my pen knife
when high school was all I knew of life,
and our love forever guaranteed
was now just two names on that ol’ tree.
That ol’ pen knife in these worn out blue jeans
held my new life and vanishin’ dreams.
But before I put steel to that tree
a voice called out and pleaded to me.
You carved that ol’ tree with your pen knife
when high school was all we knew of life,
and our love forever guaranteed
is more than two names on that ol’ tree.
I never knew I would be saved
when I got there on that cold autumn day.
A knife and a tree, a voice from the past,
whoever thought together at last.
Seven long years, it was all worth the wait,
coincidence, destiny or fate.
Reunited under that old oak tree.
So excited, I got you and you got me.
I carved that ol’ tree with my pen knife
when high school was all I knew of life,
and our love forever guaranteed
is more than two names on that ol’ tree.
Repeat chorus 2x and then fade out.
